This is the second year of The Student Shakespeare Players, a program of The Kathleen Howland Theatre located in the lower level of 2nd April Galerie.  Last year, students performed scenes from Julius Caesar with narration from William Shakespeare in English classes around Stark County.

Currently, The Student Shakespeare Players are performing scenes from eight Shakespeare plays they have developed as part of an acting workshop at The Kathleen Howland Theatre.  Scenes include:  Richard III, Midsummer Night’s Dream, King John, The Merry Wives Of Windsor, Romeo And Juliet, All’s Well That Ends Well, The Taming Of The Shrew and Much Ado About Nothing.

Students are from the following schools:  McKinley, Timken, Central Catholic, Glen Oak, Massillon Washington, North Canton Hoover, Minerva, Louisville, Sandy Valley, Oakwood, Arts Academy, Portage Collaborative Montessori, Glenwood & Schreiber Elementary.

Thanks to 2nd April Galerie, ArtsInStark, and The Stark County Educational Service Center for their wonderful support and assistance.  Thank you to Bill and Joan Clarke for their encouragement and generous support and to Joe Martuccio, Director of Twelve Angry Men, and the thirteen local lawyers in the cast who donated proceeds from ticket sales to purchase costumes and set pieces for The Student Shakespeare Players

The mission of the Kathleen Howland Theater is to provide a place where productions in the performing arts can be presented before a live audience in Downtown Canton.

It is the goal of 2nd April galerie to make The Kathleen Howland Theater available not only to individuals and groups who have no connection with an existing institution but also to theaters and other art institutions which may wish to use the theater for a production or event in Downtown Canton or to preview an upcoming production or event.

2nd April galerie is particularly interested in promoting use of The Kathleen Howland Theater by young people, both as performers and audience.
